Update: April 9, 2010 (147 days old)#2

TanaLee was soo cute tonight! She was wide awake and was look'n around and just acted restless then I leaned in a gave her a smooch and she completely relaxed.

We talked with an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) today and he informed us that Tanalee's vision in her left eye seems to be fine, but her right eye was not so fortunate. He said that her right eye suffered the most damage during her ROP or Retinopathy of prematurity: When blood vessels on the retina develope abnormally and become damaged because of it. She is now considered out of the ROP stage, meaning it won't effect her eyes anymore at this point. She has a partial detachment of her retina due not to ROP but to blood that has oozed and dried under the retina causing it to lift away from the eye. Doctors are saying that there is nothing they could do about this because it can cause further damage to the eye to remove the blood or cause the eye to bleed more and rip the entire retina from the eye causing complete blindness. So as of now they believe that her right eye can only make out light and she can see an outline of things but not in detail. As far as her left eye she see's normally.

The eye doctor says that it is a good thing that she is young because her brain will adjust to having just one good eye so she may never realize that she only has one good eye. If she were older then it would be hard for her since she would then have known what it was like for both eyes to work.

At any rate she is functioning quite nice consitering where she has been and where she could be. She seems to have adjusted well after her PDA ligation. We are still hoping for her to become re-activated on the transplant list by monday or tuesday. Her settings on the ventilator have improved tonight as well they weaned her breath rate from 45 to 40. She is only requiring anywhere between 23-30% oxygen, basically room air. So anyway she's doing better on a respitory standpoint as well.
